Libertarian Party of Delaware to vote on Amendments to Bylaws

One of the items on the agenda for the LPD's annual Convention on May 2nd will be a set of proposed amendments to the Party's Articles of Association.

At last year's Convention a Bylaws Committee consisting of Tom Uffner, Tim Spong and Mark Parks was assigned the task of proposing revisions and extensions to the Articles of Association. Tom came up with a set of seventeen amendments, which the committee is now considering. The purpose of these proposed changes is to:

  1. Establish an order of succession and a procedure for filling vacant offices;
  2. Redefine membership in a way that is not controlled by outside organizations;
  3. Establish a procedure for making bylaws changes outside of the Convention;
  4. Set an upper limit on the amount of Dues and other Fees the Party may charge per year; and,
  5. Correct inconsistencies, and make improvements to the Style, Grammar, and Layout of the Articles.

The committee report, giving our recommendations on each amendment and/or any suggested modifications, will be presented at the Convention. The proposed amendments are designed so that
each one can pass or fail independently of the others. There is also a proposed bylaws document, showing what the new bylaws will be if all the changes are approved.

In order to pass, each amendment must be approved by a 2/3rds vote of all members present at the Convention.
