The party convention is just 3 weeks away, on March 19th. We have
assembled a terrific slate of speakers for you: Josh Templet from SURJ
to update us on their legislative progress; Ken Krawchuk, former PA
chair and gubernatorial candidate; State Senator Colin Bonini,
Delaware's most Libertarian Republican; James Lark, Libertarian
extrordinaire, and our regional representative to the national committee;
and our friend Spear Lancaster, former MD gubernatorial candidate. In
addition, you will hear updates from party members on various local
topics of interest. And finally, there will be the important business of

The last two weeks of January where a terrible time for Delaware
Libertarians to live through! The biggest and best fiasco had to be the
Delaware Compensation Committee salary report. As I am sure you all know,
the state government has this terrific scheme wherein a 'nonpartisan'
committee comes up with salary increase recommendations for the
legislature and all the top officials. The sweet part is that unless the
legislature votes to reject the report in it's entirety, the increase go
into effect automatically. This
years report had raises for the Governor and Lt Governor, in particular,

I am rather under the weather at the moment, and to make things a bit
easier, I intend to 'steal' most of this column. However, I can't let
pass unnoted a small article in today's paper "Codey calls for a delay
in N.J. gas tax increase". This harks back to my August column (which
is not on the web site at the moment, but should be soon de.lp.org then
click news/newsletters/more) about blatantly playing politics with taxes.
It is easiest to just quote (Acting Governor Codey) "..the
Transportation Trust Fund is something we are going to tackle but we are

Lots of interesting stuff in the newspapers over the last few weeks. If
you have been reading this newsletter for any length of time, you know of
my 'interest' in sewer systems. So, I enjoyed the News Journal week long
series on sewage problems, which clearly demonstrates the state, county,
and city governments are incompetent to run them these systems! Of
course, their excuse is always lack of money. That despite the fact that
the state is projecting a healthy surplus this year, and New Castle
County is sitting on 200+ million in reserve funds. What can you do with

The election is over. Thanks to our candidates for the efforts. Most
were just paper candidates, but everyone of them prepared solid answers
for the newspaper questionnaires. In addition, of course, we had two
'real ' candidates: Frank Infante for Governor, and Dave Wood for State
Rep.
Well, none of our guys won. What a surprise. There may be a way to get
people to vote for someone that is not a Democrat or a Republican, but no
one but Ross Perot has been able to do it in my lifetime (and he was
helped just a tad by being able to spend 10's of millions of his own
money.)

The election is just a few days away, and of course, my primary emphasis
here should be a good rousing GOTV effort. Before I get to that however I
want to explore a few other ideas. First is that this campaign between
the two big guys (parties more than people) really has disgusted me.
Perhaps because I come to the LP from the Right, I see the Democrats as
the worst offenders. In particular, the way they have worked to convince
everyone, especially minorities, that the Republicans would be standing
at the polls with dogs to keep them from voting if the Democrats didn't

The legislature's mad rush to the end of the session provides so much
material to comment on that I don't know where to start! (And that
ignores the wealth of comedy from the states around us.) So, instead I'll
just discuss politics this month.
Last month, I commented that many of us feel that this could be the year
(for a third party upset.) Never the less, I was very surprised to hear
on a recent talk show that Delaware is among a handful of usually
Democratic states that are actually in play this election! What this
means is even if Michael Badnarik doesn't win Delaware's four electoral
