And the occupation goes on...

``This summer is going to be a critical time for the new strategy,'' George W. Bush

The election

Congratulations to David Okner for his 11.1% result. He met par for a two-way race. So did I for a 3-way race (1.1%).

I expected and received a call from Community News last evening, for my reaction to results. I said I expected a low vote and was pleased the result exceeded that of two years ago when I ran for Congress.(0.7%). I used the call to reiterate some of my platform and expect to see some of it in Saturday's Community News.

I plan to attend our 11/19 meeting, and would like for us to discuss the possibility of making a concerted effort to convince some Delawareans that the

Morris campaign - now what?

Thanks to George Jurgensen anf Brad Thomas for very well-written letters to The News Journal. Letters submitted for me, and campaign information in newspapers give excellent publicity for almost no cost. Today's Community News includes my campaign sheet word for word, with a picture of a very responsible looking candidate - me. Now, all I have to do is stay home Tuesday night and be interviewed by at least rwo newspapers. I've just written my response that will have to be revised slightly depending on election results. Then, Lois and I will go to Return Day in Georgetown Thursday where I'll ride in a horse drawn carriage with Carper and Ting and Lois and I will attend a couple of receptions.

Notes from Morris U.S. Senate campaign

Today, the News Journal voters guide was published. I hope my picture, with others, on the cover will prompt readers to give thoughtful consideration to my answers.

Our David Okner (22nd rep) did an excellent job answering questions.

Many thanks to George Jurgensen for taking me to the 10/25 BOSCOV'S candidate forum. I had the pleasure of answering a question about the federal Department of Education employees: "They should be reassigned or fired - just get them out of there".

In my campaign, I've been saying that large cuts in spending are needed to help avoid a dangerous financial situation for our children and grandchildren. I give two examples: Government grants ($426 billion in 2005) and federal Department of Education ($71 billion in 2005). I hope you will point the finger at these examples. Repetition is the key to advertising.

Harm Done By The War On Drugs

1. Parties to drug disputes can't go to court, so assault or murder is used.

2. Patients dying in pain who don't get enough pain killer because the doctor is understandably afraid of the DEA.

3. Death of cancer patients who could be saved by marijuana which allows them to take strong medicine without throwing up.

4. People put in jail for having a bad habit.

5. Murderers, rapists and others released to make room for violators of drug laws.

6. We pay for drug warriors, to keep drug offenders in jail and build prisons.

7. Illegality causes high prices, so some users steal to get money for drugs.

LIBERTARIAN VIEWPOINT

The last two weeks of January where a terrible time for Delaware Libertarians to live through! The biggest and best fiasco had to be the Delaware Compensation Committee salary report. As I am sure you all know, the state government has this terrific scheme wherein a 'nonpartisan' committee comes up with salary increase recommendations for the legislature and all the top officials. The sweet part is that unless the legislature votes to reject the report in it's entirety, the increase go into effect automatically. This years report had raises for the Governor and Lt Governor, in particular,

I am rather under the weather at the moment, and to make things a bit easier, I intend to 'steal' most of this column. However, I can't let pass unnoted a small article in today's paper "Codey calls for a delay in N.J. gas tax increase". This harks back to my August column (which is not on the web site at the moment, but should be soon de.lp.org then click news/newsletters/more) about blatantly playing politics with taxes. It is easiest to just quote (Acting Governor Codey) "..the Transportation Trust Fund is something we are going to tackle but we are

LIBERTARIAN VIEWPOINT

Lots of interesting stuff in the newspapers over the last few weeks. If you have been reading this newsletter for any length of time, you know of my 'interest' in sewer systems. So, I enjoyed the News Journal week long series on sewage problems, which clearly demonstrates the state, county, and city governments are incompetent to run them these systems! Of course, their excuse is always lack of money. That despite the fact that the state is projecting a healthy surplus this year, and New Castle County is sitting on 200+ million in reserve funds. What can you do with

Election results

The election is over. Thanks to our candidates for the efforts. Most were just paper candidates, but everyone of them prepared solid answers for the newspaper questionnaires. In addition, of course, we had two 'real ' candidates: Frank Infante for Governor, and Dave Wood for State Rep.

Well, none of our guys won. What a surprise. There may be a way to get people to vote for someone that is not a Democrat or a Republican, but no one but Ross Perot has been able to do it in my lifetime (and he was helped just a tad by being able to spend 10's of millions of his own money.)
