Hello! Neighbors of mine in Delaware's 28th District,
I'm hoping to get your vote this November, so that I may represent you in the State House, beginning next January.
I've lived in Kent County for the last 21 years, living the last five just south of Smyrna. My husband and I will have been married for twenty years by the end of 2002. I met Dale while he was a security policeman in the Air Force, in Dover. Our two girls, Dawn and Amanda, attended Smyrna High School, with Mandy graduating this past year. I was an Air Force brat, myself, having moved to Delaware the first time in 1965. I graduated from Dover High School in 1973, then spent most of the next eight years working for the Navy Department in the Washington D.C. area. I moved back home to Delaware in 1981, when I went to work for my father and brother in Conk's Communication Service. Dad has retired from the business, but I'm still working with my brother. We work out of his home office, where I am blessed to be helping with his two youngest children, in addition to keeping up with my office responsibilities.
Except for a few newspaper editorials I've written and two campaigns to put a Libertarian, me, in the state house, I haven't been a very public person. I am, however, very active with two organizations: my church and my political party. I belong to the Community of Christ, in which Ive been very active in my local congregation for over ten years, and Ive been an ordained minister, since 1998. I've been a member of the Libertarian Party of Delaware since 1984 and have been either state secretary or state treasurer for most of the past twelve years.
I'm not your normal campaigning politician. Being a bit shy and unassuming, you probably won't find me campaigning in front of the Acme or going door to door. But, if you'd like to find me, I'm usually home, or next door at my brothers.
I live next door to my parents, too, and my dad and I enjoy walking the full length of Twin Willows Road almost every morning. I am so grateful to God for answering my prayer to have the initiative to exercise. I love it, now! God is also in the process of teaching me to love the ones I try to teach. And to always be willing to listen and slow to speak and to not become angry easily (James 1:19 NCV). Im amazed almost daily at the progress Hes made with me!
I am so grateful that I live in a country that allows religious freedom even when that means freedom from religion. But, that is what God wants. People who choose to follow Him. Not people who are forced to follow Him.
Politically, I believe that people have the right to live their lives freely. That people have the obligation to live their lives responsibly. That people have the right to enjoy the benefits of right living. That people have the responsibility to pay for wrong living. I believe that laws should be simple and easy to remember. Laws should never have become so complex that they require attorneys to explain them to the legislators who passed them.
Religiously, I believe that when God created people, He gave us the ability to choose between right and wrong. Between those things that are helpful and those things that are hurtful. God teaches us through Jesus how to live well with others. God does not force us to live well with anyone, even with ourselves. But, God is a god of justice. What goes around does come around. What we sow, for good or for bad, we shall reap even in this lifetime. I have trusted God, and He has given me joy, hope, love, peace, and excellent health!
I believe we can ease up on our neighbors in order to give them an opportunity to choose to do the right thing. By doing so, I believe everyone will have the opportunity to fulfill his or her potential as Gods wonderful creations. I believe we can stop regulating or outlawing them into a corner. I believe we can expect them to behave responsibly. I believe we can hold them accountable for any harm they have done.
I can be reached by phone at 653-1478, by email at terril@ezol.com, by mail at 184 Conks Lane, Smyrna 19977, or in person between 6:30 and 8:00 am walking along Twin Willows Road. I hope that if you have real issues or concerns you will give me the opportunity to listen and to respond to you. And, I hope you will vote for me, Terri Lewis, Libertarian candidate for state house representative, 28th district.
Thank You.
