Background
I was born in Queens, New York on July 14, 1962. My father's occupation as a computer programmer caused the family to move many times as I grew up. I have lived in Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, Vermont, Colorado and Italy long before settling in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware in 1991. The diverse background of my youth has given me a view of the world few can imagine.
A graduate of Woodstock Union High School, Woodstock, Vermont in 1981, I began working in the Hotel trade. My first job was washing dishes, I soon moved into other positions. Currently I am the General Manager at one of Dewey Beach's Motels.
In 1995 I finished course work at Delaware Technical and Community College in Georgetown in both Communications and General Business. I was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the Honor Society of Two Year Colleges, serving as their Public Relations Officer.
My son Benjamin, born in Denver, Colorado in 1983, is following in my footsteps; he too graduated from Woodstock Union High School and is attending Delaware Technical and Community College.
Platform
Rehoboth Beach and the 14th Representative District have a Candidate from the Libertarian Party of Delaware. Everett Wodiska announced his intentions to join the race. Mr.. Wodiska came in third in the 2002 election for the new district which was the hottest House race in Delaware's history. "The people of the 14th District need someone in office that will fight for them rather that tote the party line, " Mr.. Wodiska said, "We need a strong voice, we need action, we need to get moving."
Issues facing the 14th District
- Traffic is the number one concern in Coastal Sussex County. As the population has shifted to the Coastal regions the money to support infrastructure has not. Delaware routes 1 and 24 are handling more traffic than they were designed to. DelDot has done traffic studies in many areas, suggesting to the County Council that developers be denied zoning changes and building permits. Why? Why has DelDot failed to improve the roads here? Their own studies have shown the need but the money still sits in the Northern part of the state. DelDot needs to get out of park and put their studies to work. Waiting another four years to start improvements on route 24 is a delay we don't need. As a Representative, I will fight hard to get these projects started and finished quickly. Pete Schwartzkoff failed us when improvements to Route 1 fell behind unnoticed. Pete Schwartzkoff failed us when Dart dropped route 202 unnoticed.
- House Bill 99, an Anti-discrimination bill that Pete Schwartzkoff said he supported hasn't even gone to committee. What happened Pete? This bill would grant gays and lesbians the same protection under the law that is afforded to citizens currently for race, religion, sex and age. The fear that this will create a flood of lawsuits has kept it from being presented to the floor of the House for open debate and vote. We as a nation pride ourselves on the protection of rights of every citizen. Delaware should do the same. This bill needs to get to the floor and passed.
